St. GEORGE'S CHURCH
pre 1883

It is known that the church building was extensively altered internally in 1883. When the pulpit was removed from the centre of the church and the plaster removed from the octagonal columns.
The rerodos as it is at present after the partial rebuild. The mosaics were retained and incorporated into the redesigned church.
The old altar frontals are not used and new ones were sewn by the Banner Group who also produced a number of banners for the church.

This picture of St. George's Church appears in Tom. Middleton's book. The Annals of Hyde. This picture is taken from a print in the owned by Alan James, purchased on Crewe Market by his daughter. The print is tinted in water-colour. The church, originally, was known as Hyde Church

The picture was puzzling because of the gable end to the aisle. It was another picture of the exterior taken square on to the side that solved the problem. There was a hip to the roof behind the gable peak.
A questioner asked if it showed the store at the West End. Although it is not very easy to spot it is there.
